Bhakshak

Pulkit's 2024 Indian film is about the covering up of abuse at a shelter for girls. Vaishali runs a small news site and is taken seriously by nobody; acting on a tip-off she starts investigating the shelter and sees its connection to local politics. The man who owns it is powerful in the region and the police, the administration and the press are all on his side. The film also describes the personal cost of the work: her marriage is strained, the money runs out and the threats begin. The story states that it draws on real events. The tone is angry and the message delivered directly, with a scene addressed to camera in the final section. Bhumi Pednekar stars. Who it's for: viewers who like drama about investigative journalism. Who it's not for: anyone who would rather not approach accounts of child abuse; the film treats it directly.
