What Blue Gold: World Water Wars Is About
The documentary takes up the turning of water into a commodity. Companies, investors and governments compete for control of dwindling supplies; against them local populations bring lawsuits, take to the streets, and in places rise up. The film lines up examples from Bolivia to South Africa, from India to the United States. Sam Bozzo directed the film, with Malcolm McDowell narrating. It draws on the book by Maude Barlow and Tony Clarke and argues an open thesis: water is not a commodity but a right. Little room is given to the opposing view and the film does not conceal that. The tone is a warning, and the water wars of the title are offered as a prediction.
