Blue Miracle

An orphanage in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, is about to close under its debts. Its director sees one way out: enter a fishing tournament with one of the largest purses in the world. The problems are that they have no boat and the rules are local. Julio Quintana wrote it from a real event, when in 2014 a group from an orphanage entered and won, and the money kept the place open. Dennis Quaid plays the skipper. The film never strains its genre, uses feeling directly and keeps faith at the centre. The sequences at sea are the best part and the story on land is predictable. It went out on Netflix. Who it is for: viewers who like true inspirational stories and films made for a family audience. Who it is not for: anyone looking for something outside the formula.
