What Bluebird Is About
Merel is a girl who does well at school. She is good at her lessons and at sport. She can dive from the springboard. She has a brother at home. Her brother is called Kasper and he is severely disabled. The attention of the house naturally goes to him. Merel has another talent as well. She has a good voice and she sings. Because of it she is asked into the school musical. But she is a little too sure of herself. When others sing solos she joins in loudly. That does not go down well in the class. Her classmates begin to shut her out. Bullying follows. Merel’s life turns hard all at once. Elske Rotteveel and Kees Scholten take the leads in Mijke de Jong’s Dutch film of 2004.
