Boys Cry

Mirko and Manolo, who grew up in the same neighbourhood outside Rome, are eighteen with nothing in front of them. One night they hit someone with a car, and when the man turns out to be an informer the local clan was looking for, the accident becomes an entry ticket into the business. In their first film Damiano and Fabio D'Innocenzo present the move into crime not as a moment of decision but as an order of events that looks natural because there is no alternative. The families are part of the arrangement too; they do not ask where the money their sons bring home comes from. The telling is hard and distant, the camera close. The neighbourhood was shot on real locations. The two brothers became among the most noticed names in Italian cinema after this.
