Bread and Salt

Tymek is a young pianist studying music in Warsaw. On holiday he returns to the provincial town he comes from. At home are his mother and younger brother, and on the street the friends from his neighbourhood. The meeting point for the town’s young people is a newly opened kebab bar. The people working there are Arabs, and the tension between them and Tymek’s friends keeps growing. Tymek watches that escalation closely but is caught in between. The film shows how hostility gets built in everyday, ordinary language. That being a witness is also a choice is the real subject. Tymoteusz Bies and Jacek Bies appear in Damian Kocur’s ninety nine minute Polish film, completed in 2023.
