What Breaker Morant Is About
Late in the Boer War, three Australian officers face a court martial for shooting prisoners. They say they were following orders, but nobody who issued those orders is anywhere to be found, and a general staff keen to keep its distance from the dirty part of the war has settled on them as scapegoats. The lawyer given one day to prepare their defence turns out to be far harder work than expected. Watch it knowing this: historians still argue about the case, and the film stands openly with the accused.
