What Bucharest Non-Stop Is About

Dan Chișu's 2015 Romanian film takes place across a single night. A twenty-four-hour shop in the middle of a district of apartment blocks takes in the whole traffic of the night: people still drinking, people fighting, people looking for somewhere to shelter, people waiting for morning. Four separate stories cross here, and the person connecting all of them is Achim, who owns the shop. The film shows Bucharest from nowhere touristic at all, from exactly this doorway. It sits close to the realist strand of Romanian cinema: one small space, long nights, characters who open up by talking. Gheorghe Ifrim and Toma Cuzin are in the cast.
