Call Me Kate

The documentary tells the life of the actor Katharine Hepburn. The account rests largely on her own words. Audio tapes that had not been released before are used. On part of them Hepburn speaks in her own voice. The rest is read by an actor. Home video and a photographic archive come in as well. The telling gives wide room to her childhood. Hepburn remembers that period as a happy one. But a death took place in the family in those same years. Her brother’s suicide is set out plainly in the film. The acting years follow. The choices in her career and her resolve come forward. Surviving members of the family speak too. The documentary does not build a language of praise. The account tries for a balanced portrait. Katharine Hepburn and Mundy Hepburn appear in the eighty six minute documentary. It is an American production Lorna Tucker finished in 2023.
