What Camille Is About
Paris, 1847. Marguerite Gautier lives as a kept woman, among camellias, debts and a cough that keeps getting worse. She falls for the young Armand and tries, for the first time, being with someone for a reason other than money. Then Armand's father comes to see her and asks her to give him up. Marguerite engineers the separation herself, never tells Armand why, and pays for it alone. From Dumas fils, filmed many times over. Garbo plays the death scene almost silently.
