Swann in Love

Charles Swann is one of the most sought-after men in Parisian society: liked in the salons, trusted on matters of taste, welcome everywhere. Then he falls for Odette. She is not from his circle; she has lived on other people's money and her past is talked about. Swann becomes unable to think about anything but jealousy. Asking where she is, who she is with and what she is doing eats his days. The film takes place across a single day and shows where that day has brought him. Volker Schlöndorff directs, adapting one section of Marcel Proust's novel. A hundred and ten minutes, with Jeremy Irons as Swann, Ornella Muti as Odette and Alain Delon as the Baron de Charlus, and Fanny Ardant in the cast. It won a César for its costumes.
