Candy Mountain

A musician who has made no name for himself takes to the road. The person he is after is the world’s greatest guitar maker. The journey carries him from the north of the United States into Canada. The people he meets along the way move him a step forward, and sometimes a step back. The film makes the search itself matter more than the finding. What is gained by going after a maker who has become a legend is the real subject. There are musicians in the cast as well, Tom Waits and Joe Strummer among them. The ninety one minutes are given to a single road. Kevin J. O’Connor and Bulle Ogier appear in the film by Robert Frank and Rudy Wurlitzer, a joint Swiss, Canadian and French production, completed in 1988.
