Candyman: The David Klein Story

The documentary takes up David Klein. Klein is a candy man living in Los Angeles. He is described as a man very much his own. One day he comes up with a new idea. The idea is the jelly beans called Jelly Belly. The beans are colourful and come in many flavours. They draw great interest before long. A new period opens in American confectionery. Ronald Reagan says openly that he likes them. But Klein does not stay at the head of the business. He leaves just as the company is about to grow. The firm then turns into a billion dollar concern. The documentary looks at how that parting came about. Klein and his son Bert Klein speak in the seventy five minute documentary. Costa Botes’s New Zealand and American coproduction was finished in 2010.
