What Can't Stand Losing You: Surviving The Police Is About
The documentary starts from the guitarist Andy Summers’s memoir One Train Later. It follows his road from the psychedelic scene of the sixties, when he played with The Animals, through a chance meeting with the drummer Stewart Copeland on a London train, to the founding of The Police with the bass player Sting. The band’s very fast rise and its very public collapse at the height of its fame in the early eighties were both recorded on Summers’s own camera. Rare archive material, his photographs and the view of the stage from the guitarist’s side are set alongside the present, in the period when the three of them were preparing to reunite for the 2007 tour after two decades apart. It was shown at Doc NYC in 2012 and got an American theatrical run in 2015.
