Captain

The film tells the life of V. P. Sathyan, the former captain of the India national football team. The road out of Kerala and into the national side runs alongside the pain of an injury he carried from childhood. The second half is about the collapse that begins with the injury to his leg: the playing ending, the income stopping, the name being forgotten. How Sathyan’s life ended is part of the account, and the film presents it neither as a lesson nor as something that had to happen. What his wife Anitha describes is the film’s second voice. Jayasurya and Anu Sithara appear in Prajesh Sen’s hundred and forty four minute Malayalam film, completed in 2018.
