Carte Blanche

Kacper is a history teacher at a secondary school. Because of a genetic condition he is slowly losing his sight, and he tells nobody: not the head teacher, not his pupils, not the people who genuinely care about him. The reason is both the fear of losing his job and not wanting to be pitied. The only person who knows is his closest friend Wiktor. Kacper is also preparing his pupils for their final examinations and does not want to give that up. He begins a relationship with his colleague Ewa and tries to help Klara, a difficult student. Jacek Lusiński's film is based on a true story. The telling builds the illness not as a tragedy but as the exhaustion of concealment: the real burden is not failing to see but hiding every day that he cannot. Andrzej Chyra plays Kacper. The decision at the end is his own, and it is not shown as an easy one.
