Chain Reactions

Alexandre O. Philippe's 2025 documentary is about the mark left by a horror film made in the seventies. Five separate people describe the same film, and each takes it from an entirely different place. The structure consists of those five sections. Among the speakers are a director, a writer, a critic and a comedian; one recalls the moment of first seeing it, another its formal decisions, another its effect on their own work. Philippe is known for documentaries that take apart a single film. The narrative does not summarise film history or go into the production story; the interest lies entirely in the effect left on the viewer. Who it's for: those who like horror cinema and documentaries built around one film. Who it's not for: people who have not seen the source film; the documentary describes its scenes in detail.
