What Chicken Is About
In Joe Stephenson’s 2016 British film, Richard is fifteen, has learning difficulties and wants to put down roots, while his older brother Polly cannot stay still and is destructive with it. When the land they live on changes hands and the power to their caravan is cut, an already precarious arrangement gets worse. Richard becomes besotted with Annabel, the new landowner’s daughter, while Polly falls in with the men running a shabby travelling fair. As the brother’s abuse escalates and family secrets surface, the boy’s optimism gets harder to hold, and he is caught between loyalty and the first real friend he has had. Scott Chambers plays Richard.
