Children of God

Kareem Mortimer's Bahamian film ties three lives together. Johnny, an art student in Nassau whose technique is faultless but who has run dry, is sent by his teacher to the island of Eleuthera. There he meets Romeo, a musician, and something starts between them that neither of them handles well. Romeo is engaged and does not describe himself this way. The third strand is Lena, married to a pastor who preaches hard against homosexuality. The film shows how religious conservatism in the Bahamas forces people into hiding, and it reduces nobody to a single sentence. It played at more than a hundred festivals. The ending is heavy and is left unspoiled here.
