Kieran Campion What Children of Invention Is About
Two small children living illegally in a show flat for sale outside Boston are left on their own when their hard-working mother does not come home one day. The mother has been chasing work that promised quick money and has said nothing to them about what has happened. The brother and sister are afraid to go to the police, because they know they would be separated; they try to sort out food, school and the rent themselves. The film neither asks for pity for the children nor turns them into small heroes; it shows the detail of poverty. Cindy Cheung appears in Tze Chun’s eighty six minute American film; it was completed in 2010.
