Chilsu and Mansu

Chilsu and Mansu paint the giant advertising boards on the tops of buildings by hand; there is little work, the pay is small and the job is dangerous. Chilsu passes himself off as an art student to the girl he likes and tells everyone he will soon be leaving for Miami. Mansu says little and takes whatever work comes. Finishing a huge advertisement for a drink, the two climb to the top of the board, talk up there, and start shouting down at the street. From that height nothing they say can be heard; a crowd gathers below, the police are called, and an enormous misunderstanding takes shape. Park Kwang-su’s first film is counted among the works that opened the Korean new wave of the eighties. Ahn Sung-ki and Park Joong-hoon appear in the hundred and nine minute production, completed in 1988.
