Christmas Oranges

A happy child who loses her family is sent to an orphanage with hard rules. The head of the place takes against her and makes no secret of it. There is one tradition though: every Christmas the children are each given an orange. For the girl that orange becomes the only thing in the place worth hoping for. Directed by John Lyde, this family film speaks directly to a young audience and does not hide its sentiment. The telling does not soften the difficulty; life in the orphanage is genuinely hard. But it looks for its solution not in a miracle but in the children standing by each other. Edward Herrmann is in the cast. A short, plain production made for the Christmas season.
