What Christmas for a Dollar Is About
In the years of the Great Depression the Kamp family is finding it hard to get by after the death of their mother. The older children try to hold the house together, but it is the younger ones who struggle most. The father’s hands are tied; the doctor’s bills piled up because of one of his sons’ illness have taken precedence over everything, and the children expect a Christmas without presents. Then the father scrapes together a dollar in coins, and that small sum begins to change everything inside the house. The film shows poverty as an obstacle but looks for its answer inside the family. Brian Krause plays the lead in John Lyde’s hundred and one minute American film, completed in 2013.
