What Circles Is About
Bosnia, 1993. In the market at Trebinje three Serb soldiers are beating a Muslim civilian. Marko is a Serb soldier too; he steps in and tries to protect the man. His own comrades then turn on him, and Marko dies. The film does not restage that day. It goes to twelve years later: his father, his fiancée, his closest friend, and the man whose life was saved. All four are living with the weight of that single act, and all four are put in front of the same question. Srdan Golubović's film comes from something that happened. Srđan Aleksić was killed in Trebinje in 1993 trying to protect his neighbour. There is an award named after him in Serbia.
