What Combat Girls Is About
Marisa is twenty, lives in a town in eastern Germany, works in a supermarket and belongs to a neo-Nazi group. Her anger is ready-made, its source unclear, and the inheritance her grandfather left her is what brought her here. One day she hits an Afghan refugee with her car and drives off, and after that the order in her head stops holding. At the same time a fifteen-year-old girl joins the group and Marisa sees herself where she used to stand. David Wnendt wrote it from research and looks at the women's wing of the far right, the side nobody examines. Alina Levshin leads and the part won her the German Film Award. The film offers neither a solution nor absolution. Who it is for: viewers who like hard German social drama and stories of radicalisation. Who it is not for: anyone who cannot take racist violence shown directly.
