Come On Children

Five boys and five girls move into a farmhouse. They are between thirteen and nineteen years old. All of them come from Toronto. They will live there for ten weeks. They are away from their parents, from school and from every kind of authority. Nobody tells them what to do. The camera is simply there, watching. The young people try to work out an order of their own. Some take up music and some do nothing at all. Boredom, argument and closeness all arrive together. With the rules gone, what emerges changes too. The film does not announce in advance what that will be. The shooting was done in the winter of 1971. One of the young people later became known as Alex Lifeson, the guitarist of the band Rush. The film waited a year over distribution before it opened. Alex Lifeson and Jane Harrison appear in the ninety five minute documentary. It is a Canadian production Allan King finished in 1973.
