Come What May

May 1940, and the German army crosses into France. On the prefecture's advice, the people of a small village in the Pas-de-Calais abandon everything and take to the road. That exodus, millions of people moving south and toward the coast, went largely unspoken about in France for decades. The film picks a few figures out of the crowd: a German refugee looking for his son, a Scottish soldier escaped from prison, and the villagers whose route crosses theirs. Christian Carion directs, with a score by Ennio Morricone. Carion had made Joyeux Noël before this, and both films look at war from where the civilians are standing. August Diehl, Olivier Gourmet and Mathilde Seigner star.
