Common Denominator

Four men come together in a coffee bar and start talking about life, love and women. As the conversation goes on, each of them opens up his own story and they realise they resemble one another far more than they had assumed. Sotiris Tsafoulias’ film is built almost entirely in one place and on talk; what carries it is tone and the changes of tempo rather than plot. The café’s owner Platonas, a seventy-year-old widowed father, is the oldest voice in the room and says something quite different from the certainties of the younger men. Vladimiros Kiriakidis, Renos Haralambidis, Antonis Antoniou and Pigmalion Dadakaridis are in the cast. The eighty-minute film sits between comedy and drama, drawing its strength from the gap between what the four dare to tell each other and what they keep back.
