What Conspirators of Pleasure Is About
Six people in Prague are preparing private rituals they have told nobody about. One sews a chicken costume, one rolls tiny balls of bread, one puts carp in the bath, one glues fur and nails to rolling pins. On Sunday each of them carries out their fantasy. The most striking thing is the form: there is not one line of dialogue in it. Jan Svankmajer animates objects, makes the sense of touch almost visible, and shows these hidden compulsions without judging any of them. Strange, uncomfortable and firmly for adults; not for anyone expecting conventional narrative.
