What Conversations with My Gardener Is About
A Parisian painter, on the edge of divorce and tired of the city, goes back to the country house he grew up in. The garden has been neglected for years; he looks for someone to grow vegetables again, and the man who comes turns out to be a classmate from primary school. From there the film is almost entirely their conversations: art, tomatoes, marriage, illness, death. Becker does not try to build a plot; watching two men slowly get to know each other is enough. Auteuil and Darroussin carry it. Calm, slow, with no fighting in it.
