The combat is deliberately disordered and gives no sense of direction. Sam Peckinpah directed; it is his only war film. James Coburn and Maximilian Schell lead. It was shot in Yugoslavia and ran out of money during production. A real warning: the violence is heavy and detailed, and a hospital sequence contains sexual violence. The ending resolves nothing, deliberately.
