D. Wade: Life Unexpected

The basketball player Dwyane Wade recorded his own life and career with a crew over ten years. The documentary comes out of that footage, and so most of its material is from inside. The account does not settle for listing what he did on court; it uses what was left because the camera did not stop. Miami and the years spent there are at the centre. Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh and Jimmy Butler are among those speaking. The film’s case is that Wade is one of the greatest players in the history of the NBA; that assessment is the documentary’s own. How an athlete keeping his own archive shapes the telling can be seen as well. Bob Metelus’s ninety six minute American documentary was completed in 2020.
