Dance Craze

The documentary is about a music movement in Britain. The movement was called 2 Tone. It came up at the end of the seventies. Its source was ska music out of Jamaica. The record label founded by The Specials gave it the name. Before long a number of bands gathered on the same line. Six bands appear on stage in the film. Madness, The Specials and The Beat are among them. The Selecter, Bad Manners and The Bodysnatchers are there too. The account is made almost entirely of concert footage. No interviews or commentary come between. The camera takes in the stage and the audience together. In the halls are young people from working class districts. The eighty five minute film records the stage energy of that period, a British production Joe Massot finished in 1981.
