Dancing Arabs

Eyad is an Arab boy growing up in Tira. Because he is bright, he is sent to a Jewish boarding school in Jerusalem, where he is the only Arab. He corrects his Hebrew, hides his accent and avoids saying his name. He and Naomi, a classmate, become a couple, but her family will never accept it. There is also Yonatan, a boy with muscular dystrophy who is confined to his bed; Eyad starts looking after him. In the end a road opens in front of him: living under someone else's identity. The film is about what that gets him and what it takes. Eran Riklis directs, adapting Sayed Kashua's 2002 novel, which Kashua also turned into the screenplay; the book is semi-autobiographical. A hundred and four minutes, with Tawfeek Barhom as Eyad. It is also released as A Borrowed Identity.
