Zaytoun

1982, the war in Lebanon. Yoni, an Israeli fighter pilot, is shot down over Beirut and lands in the middle of a Palestinian refugee camp. Fahed, an orphaned twelve-year-old in the camp, sees an enemy first and then strikes a bargain: he will take the pilot south so that he can plant his father's olive sapling in the village his family came from. Eran Riklis's film is an Israeli production, written by Nader Rizq. It puts the anger, the loss and the forced dependence of both sides into the same journey. It was criticised as a peace fable that simplifies the conflict, and the film makes no secret of having chosen to tell a story about reconciliation.
