What Daruchini Dwip Is About
A group of university friends want to get to the coral shore of Saint Martin island. The real subject of the story is not the island but the effort of getting there: finding money, persuading families, getting past the hurts among themselves. Each character has a story of their own behind them, and these open one by one during the preparation; what each of them can and cannot afford becomes clear the same way. Adapted from a widely read novel by Humayun Ahmed, the film is about how much of youth is spent in imagining. Riaz and Zakia Bari Mamo appear in Tauquir Ahmed’s hundred and twenty eight minute Bangladeshi film, completed in 2007.
