What The Unnamed Is About
A Bangladeshi worker who entered the United Arab Emirates on a false passport dies there, and the body sent home turns out to belong to someone else. From that point Tauquir Ahmed's 2016 film describes not a question of identity but a system: how names are bought and sold in order to get abroad, how the dead lose theirs, and how nobody quite knows whose funeral anyone is attending. As the story moves through the bureaucracy, what remains in the place of a missing person is paperwork. It won best director, best screenplay and best story at the Bangladesh National Film Awards and was sent as the country's Oscar submission that year.
