Dear Goddamned Friends

Tuscany, 1944. A group of boxers stuck in the middle of the war stage fixed fights to make money and to keep moving. A lost Black American soldier and a girl who refuses to be married off attach themselves to the group, and what sets out along the edge of the front line is a strange caravan in which nobody belongs to anybody. Mario Monicelli was the master of commedia all'italiana, and here too he tells the war through the cunning of hungry people rather than through heroism, showing what Italy looked like in the last months of it along the way.
