What Dear Wendy Is About
Dick is an unremarkable young man in a small mining town who names the little pistol he acquires Wendy and writes letters to it. He then forms a society with other outsiders: they will carry guns and never fire them, because they consider themselves pacifists. How long that rule holds is what the film slowly shows. Lars von Trier wrote it and Vinterberg directed; it is a film about America made by people looking at gun culture from outside, and von Trier has never set foot there. The finish is bloody and the allegory is blunt.
