Deliver Us from Evil

Johannes leaves the city with his wife and two children and moves back to the town he grew up in. His brother Lars, driving drunk, hits and kills a woman from the town. He then pins it on Alain, an immigrant working there. The town believes it immediately, because it wants to. Johannes stands with Alain on his own. From that moment the target is not Alain but Johannes, and his neighbours, his relatives and the friends he grew up with all come at him together. Ole Bornedal directs the Danish film; a hundred minutes, with Lasse Rimmer, Lene Nystrøm and Pernille Vallentin in the cast. It is about how far a town will go to protect a lie it is holding; what is frightening is not the individuals but all of them deciding the same thing at the same moment.
