Demonte Colony 2

R. Ajay Gnanamuthu's 2024 Tamil horror film continues from the 2015 original while moving the story onto a new line. Trying to contact the spirit of her dead husband Sam, Debbie inadvertently reaches Srinivasan, who has just died; the contact saves his life but leaves him in a coma for years. Debbie then works to unravel the system by which Lord Demonte sacrificed people and enslaved their spirits. The film uses the name of Demonte Colony, a real district in Chennai attached to local urban legend, and that connection sharpens the effect for Tamil audiences. The production values are markedly higher than the first film's, with good sound design and use of location. Its weakness is a mythology built too elaborately, with explanations that slow the story down. Who it's for: viewers who like Tamil horror and productions built on urban legend. Who it's not for: anyone who dislikes horror driven by jump scares, or starting without having seen the first film.
