Derailroaded

The documentary is about the musician Larry Fischer. His stage name was Wild Man Fischer. He lived with mental illness. From childhood he was in and out of institutions. He was hospitalised at sixteen. In the years that followed he sang in the streets of Los Angeles. He sold his songs to passers by for ten cents. Frank Zappa noticed him on the street. He made a record with Zappa. The album left its mark in a small circle. Years later he lived close to homelessness. The documentary joins archive footage with interviews. Fischer speaks in his own words. People who knew him and other musicians also talk. The film does not turn him into a freak show. Wild Man Fischer and Frank Zappa appear in the eighty six minute documentary. It is an American production Josh Rubin finished in 2005.
