What Detective Conan: The Private Eyes' Requiem Is About
A large event is arranged at an amusement park and many detectives are invited. In the middle of it the park is sealed: someone has planted bombs and set up a game. The rules are clear; if certain puzzles are not solved the bombs go off, and there are hundreds of people inside. Conan and the detectives around him split up and start looking for clues. Meanwhile one of the people closest to him loses his memory. Yasuichiro Yamamoto directs. It is the tenth cinema film of the long running Detective Conan series. It counts as one of the turning points of the series because almost all of the fixed characters of the main narrative are present at once; for followers of the series it has a place of its own. The narrative is built on puzzles and the clues are given to the viewer as well throughout; that is the method of the series. The strand about memory loss is its emotional side and creates a tension about Conan's own secret. The action passages are above the series average and the final section is staged at large scale. Its limit is context; there are many characters and who is who comes from the series. Who it is for: viewers of Detective Conan and anyone who likes puzzle based animation. Who it is not for: the characters are confusing for a newcomer, the plot leans on coincidence, and the section of explanation runs long.
