Dev Pratap Singh, a police commissioner bound tightly to the rules, and his lifelong friend Tejinder Khosla, a special commissioner, work in the same city on principles that steadily diverge. Farhaan, a law graduate raised against violence, is thrown into rage after witnessing his father’s death at a peace demonstration, and Dev unknowingly opens that wound. A politician named Latif uses the situation to draw the young man into a bombing, and in the violence that follows Farhaan’s beloved Aaliya is caught up in it too. The chief minister Bhandarkar, for his part, sees to it that the police do not intervene. In Govind Nihalani’s hundred and seventy six minute Indian film, Amitabh Bachchan plays Dev, Om Puri plays Khosla, Fardeen Khan plays Farhaan and Kareena Kapoor plays Aaliya. It was released on 11 June 2004.
