Dhool

Dharani's 2003 Tamil film follows Arumugham, sent from his village to Chennai. A chemical factory is polluting the village's water; when every attempt fails the villagers send him to the city to meet the official responsible. The idea is bureaucracy as a wall. Arumugham cannot read and does not know the rules of the city; at every door another document is demanded, and the narrative shows that cycle in detail. Then the matter turns to violence.
