What Diary Is About
In 1973 David Perlov buys a cheap sixteen millimetre camera. For the ten years that follow he films his own daily life. Much of the time the camera looks out of the window of his flat in Tel Aviv. What he records is both the small moments of his family and the large events in the country. The growing up of his two daughters, Yael and Naomi, happens inside the film. Perlov came to cinema from painting, and he thinks aloud about painting, photography, ageing and the neighbourhood. Among the people he meets is Klaus Kinski. The work is in six parts; the first covers five years and the last three months. The five and a half hours are spread across 1973 to 1983 in this Israeli documentary, completed in 1983.
