Noam Chomsky K Kathrin Hartmann What Die grüne Lüge Is About
Werner Boote's documentary takes on the way corporations tell us they are environmentally friendly: electric cars, food described as sustainably produced, promises of fair manufacture. Its argument is stated openly, that if all of this were true we could save the world through our purchasing decisions alone, and that this is a convenient illusion. Boote travels the production chains with the environmental writer Kathrin Hartmann and shows the points where the story in the shop window and the situation on the ground come apart. The film is advocacy and claims no neutrality, though it brings the companies' answers into the argument. Noam Chomsky appears in it. Its real subject is how far the responsibility of a consumer actually reaches.
