Raja is the son of a poor family and is constantly at odds with Madhu, a wealthy girl at his college. The quarrel escalates and she accuses him of molesting her. When Raja's father hears about it he decides to turn the situation to advantage: he presents himself as a rich businessman, goes to the girl's father and arranges for the two young people to marry. Everything comes out at the engagement, and neither family will back down. Indra Kumar's film was a big hit in India at the start of the nineties and became one of the best known works pairing Aamir Khan with Madhuri Dixit. The narrative mould is classic: the class difference, family honour, the pride of fathers, and two young people going on regardless. The music is by Anand-Milind and the songs became as well known as the film. Looking at it now, the college section in the first half and the use of molestation as a joke stand out as the most uncomfortable part of the period.
