What Dishonored Lady Is About
Robert Stevenson's 1947 noir follows Madeleine Damian, an art editor at a fashion magazine. Nothing comes back to her from the string of relationships she keeps starting; when one more ends she goes down badly and makes an attempt on her own life. A psychiatrist suggests she leave everything behind and start again under another name in a small apartment. Her old circle finds her, and the new life begins to come apart. Hedy Lamarr both plays the lead and is among the producers. From here the title reads as a judgement passed on the woman, which is close to the opposite of what the film is actually doing.
