What Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four Is About
Marty Langford's 2015 documentary tells the story of the Fantastic Four film shot in 1994 and never released. It was a production that had to exist before the rights lapsed, completed in a few weeks on a very small budget with Roger Corman as executive producer. Cast and crew worked believing it would open; promotional appearances were made, a trailer was cut, and then the film never appeared. The documentary puts their sense of grievance at the centre and shows that years later they are still waiting for an explanation. More than one account of why it was shelved exists, and the film sets them side by side rather than adjudicating. Copies circulated through bootlegs and it became an object of cult curiosity. Who it's for: viewers curious about the back rooms of film production and the history of superhero cinema. Who it's not for: anyone coming to it without knowing the film itself; the documentary assumes you do.
